The School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is home to six Divisions: Chinese, Economics, English, Linguistics & Multilingual Studies, Psychology and Sociology, also History and Politics & Public Administration. The School offers research programmes in all of these disciplines; the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme is offered by all Divisions, while five of the Divisions offer Master of Arts (MA):  Chinese (中文系), English, Linguistics & Multilingual Studies, Psychology, and Sociology.

Candidates pursuing graduate degrees by research work closely with their supervisors toward a thesis on an approved topic and also take courses.  The research programme can be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis.  Full-time candidates with good results may be offered research scholarships or teaching assistantships.

Admission Requirements 入学要求
For Masters’ programmes, a good Honours degree or equivalent is required. For PhD studies, a Master's degree is preferred besides having a good Honours degree.  A good GRE test score is required. Applicants whose mother tongue is not English will be required to take TOEFL. IELTS can also be used in place of TOEFL. In addition, different Divisions may have specific requirements.
