I.Course Introduction (including teaching goals and requirements) :

There are two modules in this course: 1) Foundation of interpreting; 2) Consecutive Interpreting. The former aims at helping students transit from bilingual users to the consecutive interpreters of short passages, focusing on the training of the listening skill for interpreting, and basic interpreting skills; Consecutive Interpreting aims at training the consecutive interpreters of long passages, emphasizing on accumulating interpreting experience. The whole course covers public speaking, note-taking, cross-cultural communication, figures, coping techniques, preparation, etiquette in foreign affairs.



II.Teaching Syllabus :

2 Modules: Foundation of Interpreting and Consecutive Interpreting (Interpreting Skills and Topics of Interpreting)

Foundation of Interpreting:

Listening, information extraction, short-term memory, reconstruction of information, note-taking, figures, de-verbalization

Consecutive Interpreting:

Preparation, coping techniques, interpreting practice and observation report, seminar, interpreter as cross-cultural mediator
