I.Course Introduction

This course is designed to cultivate students’ ability of applied translation between Chinese and English. On the basis of the general knowledge of relative translation theories, students are expected to have a good command of the features of some applied texts and practical translation skills after taking the course, and to be competent thereafter for their future translation career.

II.Teaching Syllabus

This course is aimed to make students acquire the ability of applied translation. An introduction of functionalist translation theory is the first step of the training, which is followed by a comparative study of English and Chinese applied texts. The focus is on practice of translation since only through a large quantity of practice can students apply the theories they learn and consequently be competent in translating some non-literary works.
