About RCAPLP

The Jiangsu University International Issues Research Center—Asia-Pacific Language Policy Research Center at Southeast University was established in 2013. It serves as a nurturing unit for the Jiangsu University International Issues Research Center, focusing on major research areas such as language economics and language policy, international promotion of languages and language policy, language politics and language policy, language education and language policy, as well as regional development and language policy. The center currently has 28 members, with Professor Chen Meihua serving as the director. The center employs internationally renowned scholars such as Susan Gass and Andy Gao as visiting professors and regularly hires several full-time researchers. Since its establishment, researchers at the center have been awarded eight National Social Science Fund projects, five Ministry of Education humanities and social sciences projects, ten key projects from the Jiangsu Provincial Social Science Fund, and over 70 other research projects of various levels. They have published more than 80 papers in core journals such as SSCI, A&HCI, and CSSCI. Notably, Professor Chen Meihua's National Social Science Fund project titled Research on Foreign Language Planning for the 'Belt and Road' Initiative received an excellent rating upon completion in 2020, and her monograph Research on Foreign Language Planning for the 'Belt and Road' Initiative won the third prize for outstanding achievements in scientific research from the Ministry of Education's 9th Higher Education Scientific Research Awards. Professor Han Yawen’s paper titled Investigating the correlation among Chinese EFL teachers’self-efficacy, work engagement, and reflection won the second prize at the 17th Jiangsu Provincial Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Awards. In the past five years, the center has invited over 50 renowned domestic and international experts and scholars, including Li Yuming, Xu Daming, David Johnson, Li Wei, Wayne Wright, and Peter De Costa, to hold lectures or workshops. The center has organized a series of international and domestic conferences, including the Fifth International Conference on Language Education Policy, a salon on foreign language planning research under the Belt and Road national strategy, a seminar on multilingual education policy and planning under the Double First Class initiative, and the Second Belt and Road Foreign Language Education Planning Roundtable. The center is committed to international cooperation and has established long-term and stable exchanges with institutions and scholars from universities such as the University of Iowa, University of Maryland, Michigan State University, University College London, University of Bath, University of New South Wales, Yorkville University in Canada, Kyushu University in Japan, and Minsk State Linguistic University in Belarus. It conducts multidisciplinary empirical investigations and research, significantly advancing the field of language policy studies and becoming an important base for cultivating high-level talent in language policy and planning within the country.
