Prof. Chen Meihua 


Dr. Chen Meihua is professor of linguistics in the School of Foreign Languages, Southeast University. She is a PhD supervisor, and Head of Foreign Language and Literature Research Group, Southeast. 


Her main research interests are in the field of

  • Applied Linguistics

  • English Language Education

  • Language Policy and Planning


Professor Chen has completed over 30 national and provincial-level grants, including

  • National Social Sciences Fund 

  • MOE Pilot Project for New Humanities and Social Sciences 

  • Jiangsu Social Sciences Fund (key project)

  • Jiangsu Educational Reform Program (key project)


She has authored over forty research articles. Her research has appeared in a broad array of prestigious journals such as

  • Foreign Language Teaching and Research

  • Foreign Languages in China 

  • Foreign Language Education 

  • Foreign Languages and Their Teaching 

  • Technology Enhanced Foreign Languages


She has published two books and edited or co-edited over twenty textbooks which were on the list of National-level Planned Textbooks for Higher Education, foreign language textbooks recommended by MOE, and the Key Textbooks for Higher Education during the 13th Five-Year Plan in Jiangsu. She is overseeing a national first-class undergraduate program for English Majors and two national first-class academic courses. 


Professor Chen serves on the Research Center for Area Studies affiliated to Research Center for International Issues of Jiangsu Province (Director), China Education Linguistics Association (Standing Member), Jiangsu Foreign Languages and Linguistics Society (Vice President) and Jiangsu Translators Association (Vice President). She is member of Academic Committee, Academic Degrees Committee, and Teaching Affairs Committee, Southeast. She is editor-in-chief of Frontiers in Asia-Pacific Language and Culture Studies.


Professor Chen holds an impressive list of honors and awards for her excellence in teaching and research, including

  • Recipient of Special Government Allowances of the State Council

  • Award for Distinguished Educators, Jiangsu Province 

  • Bao Gang National Award for Outstanding Teachers (twice)

  • Inaugural Outstanding Teaching Award, SEU 

  • Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences (national and provincial-level, three times)

  • Outstanding Teaching Achievements (national level or provincial level, five times)
