Professor Yutaka Furukawa Lectured in SFL

Furukawa Yukata, doctoral supervisor, professor of Graduate School of Language and Culture, Osaka University, was invited by Japanese Department of Southeast University to deliver an academic lecture about vocabulary comparison of “liu” between Chinese and Japanese on December 29, 2015.

Professor Yutaka Furukawa used to be the director of China Office of Osaka University, vice-president of International Society for Chinese Teaching, president of Institute of Chinese Education of Japan, guest professor of Beijing Japanology Research Center and Foreign Language Research Center of Beijing Language and Culture University. This lecture was chaired by Tao Yougong, the director of Institute of Japanese Culture, Southeast University.

Based on the analysis of translation materials, Professor Yutaka Furukawa illustrated the differences between Chinese and Japanese characters, ,juxtaposing “liu” [流] in Japanese with Chinese characters like “piao”[漂], “Liu”[流], “piao”[飘], “tang”[淌],thus explicating the gap of vocabulary use between Chinese and Japanese characters. This lecture reminded the audience of the difficulty in Chinese-Japanese and Chinese-Japanese translation, and left a deep impression on them.

Before the lecture, Prof. Liu Kehua, deputy dean of School of Foreign Languages, met Professor Yutaka Furukawa and discussed future academic exchanges with Osaka University.
