“The 1st Jiangsu High-level Forum on Foreign Languages Teaching of Postgraduates and the 4th SEU Postgraduate’s Simulated International Conference” was held in Yifu Science and Technology Hall, SEU(Southeast University), at 8 am, April 9, 2016. Leading members present at the forum were Mr. Yang Shubin, director of Postgraduate Office, Education Ministry of Jiangsu Province, Prof. Jin Baoshen, executive vice-dean of Graduate School of SEU, Prof. Li Xiaoxiang, head of Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Association for Higher Education of Jiangsu Province, Prof. Chen Meihua, dean of SFL (School of Foreign Languages) of SEU, and Dr. Ma Qiang, party secretary of SFL. The forum was chaired by Prof. Zhu Hongqing, secretary of Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Association for Higher Education of Jiangsu Province. Professors and teachers from 18 universities attended, including Nanjing University, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Nanjing Forestry University.

Mr. Yang from Ministry of Education gave an opening speech in which he introduced the current situation of postgraduate education in Jiangsu Province and hoped to see more reform measures on the part of postgraduate teaching at SEU. After that, Prof. Jin from Graduate School briefly reviewed the history of the postgraduate English teaching reform at SEU. Speaking from her own experience as a teacher and as an administrative head, Prof. Chen from SFL proposed her reform plans and clarified her requirements for the postgraduate foreign languages teaching.

In their keynote speeches, Prof. Li Xiaoxiang from SEU, Prof. Zhao Xueqin from Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUST) and deputy dean Zhu Shanhua from SEU, presented the current situation of postgraduate English teaching reforms at SEU and NUST from aspects of course target, Internet Plus, team structure, problem solutions. At the plenary session, representatives from 18 colleges and universities had heated discussions about course syllables, textbook compilation, teaching mode and resources, and feature-oriented development. This forum was very helpful in clarifying their confusion and broadening their academic horizons, the participants said.

The Simulated International Conference, as one of the reform results of the postgraduate English teaching at SEU, started at 1:30 pm. After the recommendation from teachers and online vote on the video clips, eight teams were selected from over 4000 postgraduates in the preliminary and participated in the final contest. The competition was tense and exciting, offering the audiences a wonderful experience both in auditory sense and visual sense. The forum and performance ended successfully after the awarding ceremony.
