Teaching Courses

Department of Public English Teaching for Graduates (DPETG) takes charge of the public English teaching for nearly 7,000 graduate students annually, who study for the degrees of MS, M.Eng, MBA, Ph.D and D.Eng. DPETG provides a wide selection of degree and elective English courses.


Teaching Faculty

At present, the department is staffed with 22 Chinese teachers and more than 90 teaching assistants, who are graduate students of SEU from both home and abroad.


Teaching Reforms

To make its public English curriculum for non-English major graduates better meet the goals of SEU’s construction and talents cultivation of “Being Internationalized, Research-orientated and High-leveled”, DPETG has been pushing forward its teaching reforms to highlight the aims of its courses stemming from its innovated curriculum system. The department now offers a variety of brand-new public English courses for the graduates, which feature SEU’s characteristics, focusing on enhancing students’ abilities of international academic exchange, academic English writing and cross-cultural communication.


Teaching Characteristics

DPETG provides Academic Communication English and Academic English Writing as the main courses for the graduates and devotes itself to the innovation of its curriculum and teaching modes, integrating the classroom teaching and extracurricular activities and emphasizing interactive practices. DPETG focuses on the implementation of the teaching mode based on the cooperation of Chinese and international teachers; regularly organizes such extracurricular activities as “Simulated International Conference Presentation Contests” and “Technical Communication Project Contests”, based on the highlights of its curriculum; has set up an English TA (Teaching Assistant) platform for the graduates, organizing or providing after-class learning activities and assistance.
