The 5th Simulated International Conference Presentation Contest of Southeast University was held on Sipailou Campus on March 25th, 2017. Prof. Chen Meihua, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, delivered an opening speech. The teaching faculty, along with over 100 graduates, were present at the contest. Meanwhile, it was a privilege to have the presence of teachers and students from Nanjing Normal University and Nanjing University of Science and Technology at the contest show.
There were 8 groups of contestants standing out among more than 500 groups of the first-year graduate students, surviving class auditions, teachers’ recommendations and preliminary video contests. In the 3-hour long final contest, the team members of each group cooperated tacitly and performed calmly, achieving excellent results. When the contest finished, Prof. Tao Yun and Mr. David Anderson made brilliant comments on the performance of the contestants. After the careful reviews of the judges, the three groups from the School of Civil Engineering, the School of Architecture and the School of Transportation won the first place and the other 5 groups getting to the finals won the second prize and 7 instructors were awarded the honor of “Excellent Instructors”.
Since the year of 2013, the Simulated International Conference Presentation Contest has been organized annually as one of the achievements of the teaching reform of the Graduate English course in Southeast University. This year, the guests, judges and teachers were delighted to see that the overall level of performance was significantly improved compared to that of the previous years, and the English competence of the contestants was also enhanced remarkably as the fruitful outcomes of their academic English learning.
