On May 17, 2017, Dr. Rich Rice and Dr. Kanika Batra from Texas Tech University gave inspiring speeches for faculty members of the School of Foreign Languages, Southeast University, and shared their experiences of writing for publication.
With several well-accepted textbooks, book chapters, Dr. Rich Rice has made noticeable achievements in the field of Technical Communication, and his papers published in renowned journals such as Computers and Composition, and Kairos: A Journal of Rhetoric, Technology, and Pedagogy have been widely cited. Dr. Kanika Batra, on the other hand, is an expert in post colonial drama,gender study,and ethnic literature, whose monograph was published in such a prestigious publishing houseas Routledge and whose papers were published in the influential journals including Narrative and Interventions: International Journal of Postcolonial Studies.
In his talk, Dr. Rich Rice introduced the hot topics in Technical Communication, Composition, and Rhetoric, showed the ways to get online resources from professional organizations and affiliations, recommended the internationally known academic journals, and emphasized the importance of using open sources and publishing tools for publication. Different from him, Dr. Kanika Batrastarted her speech with an interesting cartoon which sheds a light on the anxiety of writing for publication. Based on her own experience, she illustrated the steps involved in the process of paper submission, and taking Narrative and Modern Fiction Studies as examples, she also expounded on the necessity of studying the journal features.
In Q & A session, the audience was actively engaged with the two professors in the discussion of submission requirements, journal issues, and professional promotion. The speeches, lasting more than two hours, provided sufficient information and useful guidance, which will surely help to encourage the international publication of the School of Foreign Languages.
