Department of College English (Division II) is a teaching team, which was formed based on the curriculum scheme proposed in the Guidelines on College English Teaching (2020 edition) and the construction of College English advanced courses. The department is currently responsible for teaching advanced courses to the undergraduates who have completed General English. The courses have four categories: 1) International Communicative English courses, including IELTS and TOEFL; 2) English for General Academic Purposes courses, including Academic Communication English, Academic English Reading and Academic English Writing; 3) English for Specific Academic Purpose courses, including Technical Writing, Academic English for Medicine; and 4) Cross-cultural Communication courses, including Cross-cultural Communication, Translation and Interpretation, etc.
Among these courses, Academic Communication English and Technical Writing have been approved as “National First-class Undergraduate Courses” by the Ministry of Education, and Academic Communication English has been approved as “National Quality Online Open Course”by the Ministry of Education. Academic English for Medicine has been approved as “Provincial First-class Undergraduate Courses” by Jiangsu Education. Academic Communication English, Technical Writing, Academic English for Medicine and Academic Writing have developed online open courses.
The department, with two professors, eight associate professors and eight lecturers, is a team with rich teaching experience. Most of them have won important awards in micro-class and teaching competitions at national, provincial and school levels. The department is also a teaching team with innovation. The members collaborate to strive for the best teaching effect by piloting problem-solving teaching model, Chinese-foreign joint teaching, blended teaching with MOOCs and SPOCs. And the department is a research team. Most of the members, as the project directors, have undertaken national, provincial and school level scientific research and teaching reform projects. They have published academic and teaching reform papers on SSCI, A&HCI, CSSCI, and other journals. All members of the department are on their way to jointly construct the regional virtual teaching and researching room and College English research center.
