In late January 2018, the Graduate School of Southeast University, at the inception of another round of graduate catalog revision, notified all the schools or departments that have graduate programs to revise the current catalog. Following the general guidance from the Graduate School, the School of Foreign Languages started the revision step by step.
On February 23, the first workday after the winter break, Deputy Dean Professor Dongmei Ma assembled the directors of each research institute and research center at the conference room to discuss and gather suggestions. The meeting was finished with a decision that the revision shall begin with the research and exploration into the graduate catalogs of some of the top 100 universities or disciplines (QS ranking). Specifically, the program objectives, curriculum designs, requirements for course papers and graduation thesis will be carefully studied.
On March 7, Professor Dongmei Ma convened the second meeting where Professor Meihua Chen, Dean of the School, and directors or deputy directors from each research institute and research center met and had a further discussion about what needed to be done at the second stage, and decided on the submission date for each document. By April 2, four suggested versions of the revised catalog were submitted respectively by directors from the Research Institute of Linguistics and Applied linguistics, the Research Institute of Foreign Literature and Comparative Literature, the Research Institute of Translation Studies, and the Center of Russian Studies. The School will shortly invite experts from other universities to review these revised versions and further improve them. It is firmly believed that the revision will be successfully completed before the set time.
