Dr. Liang Maocheng’s Talk on “Big Data and Language Learning”

Dr. Liang Maocheng, professor of applied linguistics at Beihang University, gave a talk on ‘Big Data and Language Learning’ for the faculty and students of the School of Foreign Languages on Oct.10, 2018. 

In his talk, Dr. Liang reviewed research studies concerning Big Data Technology in the field of L2 research. He also introduced several important learner corpuses to date in the world. He illustrated some key concepts, such as aggregation, artificial neural network with the big data generated by the automated writing tutor. The lecture ended up with a discussion about how the learner corpus might be used for academic and pedagogical purposes in the field of language learning. 

Professor Liang Maocheng is currently president of China Corpus Linguistics Association. His main research interests include corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, and second language acquisition. He has published dozens of academic papers and developed more than 20 software on language analysis. He is the chief designer of iWrite, an intelligent evaluation system for writing.
