Dr. Susan Gass was appointed “Guest Professor of Southeast University” at the School of Foreign Languages on February 27th, 2019. The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Chen Meihua, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and attended by Dr. Zhou Youyong, Vice President of SEU, faculty members and students from the School of Foreign Languages.
Dr. Gass is a world-renowned linguist. She served as President of the International Association of Applied Linguistics from 2002 to 2008 and is Associate Editor of Studies in Second Language Acquisition.AsUniversity Distinguished Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages at Michigan State University, she is also the Director of the English Language Center, Co-Director of the Center for Language Education and Research, Co-Director of the Center for Language Teaching Advancement and Director of the Second Language Studies Ph.D. Program.
Vice President Zhou Youyong conferred onDr. Gass the certificate of “Guest Professor of Southeast University” with a badge of SEU and expressed the hope that the cooperation between Dr. Gass and SEU faculty and students would yield substantial achievements in teaching and research.
After the ceremony, Dr. Gass delivered an informative and enlightening lecture entitled “Foreign Language Education: Rethinking Expectation”.
