David Cassels Johnson: Educational language policy and practice: Advances in theory and method

At 7:30 pm on July 28, 2020, David Cassels Johnson, a professor of the University of Iowa, was invited by the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University and the Asia-Pacific Language Policy Research Center to hold an online lecture on the theme of “Educational language policy and practice: Advances in theory and method”.

David Cassels Johnson was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. He is an associate professor of Literacy, Culture, and Language Education at the University of lowa. He has been engaged in the research on language policy for a long time, and has made fruitful achievements in this field. He has published many papers on top journals like Applied Linguistics, Language Policy, TESOL Quarterly, etc.

In the lecture, Professor Johnson summarized the research of theories and methods related to language policy and planning (LPP), discussed the application of some new theories in this field in depth, and finally mentioned some unresolved problems in LPP research and gave his suggestions and prospects. The lecture lasted nearly two hours. During the question-and-answer session, the participants actively communicated with Professor Johnson and the atmosphere was lively. Professor Johnson’s rich and valuable research experience benefited everyone a lot.
