At 6 pm on October 28, 2020, Li Wei, a professor in Applied Linguistics at the University College London (UCL),UK, was invited by the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University and the Asia-Pacific Language Policy Research Center to hold an online lecture on the theme of “Multi-competence, translanguaging and mobile self-directed learning”.
Prof. Li Wei holds a Chair in Applied Linguistics at the University College London (UCL),UK, and he is also the editor of the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, and Applied Linguistics Review. His research covers different aspects of bilingualism and multilingualism. He has won the British Association of Applied Linguistics Book Prize twice, for his books Blackwell Guide to Research Methods in Bilingualism and Multilingualism.
During the lecture, Professor Li first introduced the research background, significance, theories and tools involved in his thesis, followed by an in-depth analysis of professional terms such as bilingual knowledge, codeswitching and translanguaging learning, and finally put forward his summary and prospect of related researches on translanguaging and multi-competence. The lecture lasted for one and a half hours. Professor Li’s valuable research experience helped the participants broaden their horizons and enrich their professional knowledge. The whole lecture ended successfully in a heated discussion atmosphere.
