The 19th Annual Conference of the International Association of Urban Language Studies (ULS19) will be held at Jiulonghu Campus of Southeast University in Nanjing (China) from August 26th to 29th, 2022. Due to the pandemic, the conference will be a hybrid event, combining online and onsite participation. The conference is jointly hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University and the International Association of Urban Language Studies (IAULS). All authors are kindly encouraged to contribute to and help to shape the conference through submissions of their research abstracts and papers.
I Conference theme
The conference theme is “Language, Education and Civilization”. With the outbreak of COVID-19 and the development of economic globalization, language is playing an increasingly important role in all fields of society. The related research directions, i.e., language civilization and language education, have thus attracted considerable attention in academia. Following the tradition of the Urban Language Seminar (ULS) series, the 2022 ULS conference will also focus on the study of languages from a dynamic and diversified perspective using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. We welcome submission of research including, but not limited to, the following topics:
1. Language civilization (language and civilization) and language governance
2. Language economy and language services
3. Language education and language policy
4. Linguistic landscapes and language life
5. Urban dialects and language inheritance
6. Language contact and language communication

III Submission guidelines
Please follow these guidelines when submitting your abstracts:
1. Abstract should include title, summary of the research, keywords (maximum 5) and references
2. Language: Chinese, English or Japanese
3. Word count: maximum 600 words in Chinese, 500 words in English and 800 words in Japanese
4. The abstract must not include diagrams

IV Important dates
1. Abstract submission deadline: May 30th, 2022
2. Notification of acceptance and sending of invitation letters: June 30th, 2022
V Conference fees
The registration fee for this conference: Online participants are free of charge; the fee of onsite participants is 600 RMB for staff members, and 300 RMB for students. Other expenses (travel, accommodation, visa fees, etc.) are at your own cost.
