Since joining the faculty at SEU in 2001 upon receiving her Master's Degree in linguistics, Professor Mao has dedicated over two decades to teaching English. Over these years, she has taught Integrated English and Chinese-English Translation. Her dedication to teaching has been recognized with several awards, notably the first prize in the Third National English Teachers' Teaching Skills Competition (2018). Her research interests center around contrastive linguistics and translation teaching. She is the principal investigator of one project funded by the National Language Commission and two projects funded by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and a research team member of several provincial and national-level projects. Among her recent publications are Reassessing the Educational Function of Foreign Language Discipline in the New Era (2022), Utilizing the Educational Value of the Pandemic to Foster Core Competencies of English Majors (2021), and Gendered Space: Doreen Massey’s Space Theory and Gender Equality in China (2019). She has translated or co-translated three books, including Space, Place, and Gender (2018) and Descartes' Error: Emotion, Reason, and the Human Brain (2007). Her translation of Descartes' Error earned her the first prize in the China University Press Book Awards (2009).
