Objective

The institute is established to consolidate linguistic resources and allied disciplines, embracing cross-disciplinary research methodologies, fostering mutually beneficial collaborations, and developing a pinnacle of academic excellence dedicated to language and cognitive research within Southeast University. This endeavor aims to ignite a scientific spirit among young instructors while elevating the collective research prowess of all the teachers, ambitiously pursuing rapid advancements in linguistic science.


Research focus

The research focus encompasses the following three aspects:

① uncovering the intricate cognitive mechanisms underlying language(including its psychological essence and neural foundations)via a meticulous blend of theoretical frameworks and empirical investigations;

② augmenting the assimilation and practical implementation of cutting-edge technologies (e.g., EEG, magnetic resonance techniques, virtual reality platforms, and AI advancements) within the realm of language studies;

③ fostering interdisciplinary collaboration in the exploration of language learning, language processing, language translation, and allied fields, thereby emphasizing the burgeoning trend towards multidisciplinary linguistic research.


Research areas 

Currently, the institute's research endeavors span diverse yet interconnected domains: Language theory; Cognition and neural mechanism of linguistic ontology; Foreign language acquisition and processing; Interdisciplinary language studies; Language intelligence; Cognitive processes of translation; Language disorder and language rehabilitation.


Directors & Members

The institute is adminstered by one director (Professor Zhou Tongquan) and two deputy directors (Professor Jiang Zhanhao and Associate Professor Yang Bo) at the School of Foreign Languages. The institute to date has had a prestigious faculty of 17 members, each holding a doctoral degree, with a dynamic scientific research team of 10 professors and associate professors.
