The afternoon of October 15th was full of light golden sunshine and cold autumn wind, and the freshmen of the School of Foreign Languages took their journey to Dr.Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum with great excitement. This was an extracurricular practice of the Morals and Ethics class organized by the instructor Wei Siyi. The practice was aimed at helping students to fulfill the socialist core values including patriotism, devotion to work, integrity and friendliness and to pursue Dr.Sun Yat-sen's spirit of “the whole world as one community”. After more than an hour‘s ride, students finally arrived at the Mausoleum successfully.
Dr.Sun Yat-sen was the forerunner of the democratic revolution who devoted his whole life to the liberation of China. Standing in front of us was the majestic mausoleum which from some other perspective could be seen as Dr.Sun Yat-sen’s cautious, conscientious and persistent attitude. Many classic works, pictures and other precious historical data about him are stored in the Mausoleum. Under the guidance of the commentator and a senior named Ni Xiaoyan, the students visited three exhibition halls successively. The whole life of Dr.Sun Yat-sen was displayed in the amazing and colorful oil painting, and the students were touched by his splendid stories and all stood in front of his statue and writ to learn his way of how to be a moral man and how to love the motherland.
The exhibition fell into silence when students saw the scene of Dr.Sun Yat-sen's critical illness when he was only 50, then the students became agitated in their mind. Dr.Sun had implemented his proverb of “the whole world as a community”, even on his mourning hall after his death, there was still a banner reading “the revolution has not been successful yet, the comrades still need to make great efforts” hanging there to warn the people.
“If man’s talent can be fully played, then everything can be solved successfully; if the advantage of the ground can be fully played, then the citizens can have enough food; if the function of an object can be fully played, then the materials can be very abundant; if the transportation of goods can be smooth, then the wealth can be great”. The Three People’s Principle (Nationalism, Democracy and the People’s livelihood) and his conception about future was still very inspiring. All the students were surprised by his The International Development of China, his housing industry plan, composition of state-operated and private economy. Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s proficiency in economy and law, his will and spirit of renouncing the pen for the sword both made his life full of legend and also gave the students a chance to learn more about their own study and life.
It was getting darker and the students was about to leave but they did not even have little decrease in their interests and also they had different feelings deep in their mind when facing the patriot who devoted their whole lives to fight for their country. Although the activity ended, the students obtained the mental foraging that can be of lifelong benefit.
After the visit, the students said that they not only needed to carry forward Dr.Sun Yat-sen’s spirit of "the whole world as a community" but also to act from trifles, finish every discipline cautiously, handle everything honestly, treat everybody friendly and set up the right outlook on the world, life and values.
2014 is the 11th year of the joint construction of the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University and Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum, and also the first time for our school to extend the objects of practical activity to freshmen. In the future, more students from our school will join the activity of "getting into Dr Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum , publicizing philanthropsm".
