Teachers of SFL Completed English Language Training Tasks at Monash University

From July 17th to August 6th, under the leadership of professor Yuan Liudi, dean of Graduate School Training, the Summer Visiting Delegation composing of 21 teachers from Foreign Languages , Mechanical Engineering, Energy and Environment, Computer Science, Medicine and Life Science, has successfully accomplished the English language training tasks organized by Monash University.

The principal purpose of the training task is to improve the ability of teaching by research of young teachers in Foreign Languages Department through learning from teaching experience of academic exchange and writing of English-speaking countries. Leaders from the School, Graduate School, Academic Affairs, International Cooperation and Foreign Languages Department have attached great importance as well as provided support to the training project form the very beginning to its implementation. Teachers participating in the project are required to treasure the opportunity and put the advanced teaching concept and methodology into the non-English major teaching practice and college English teaching reform.

In the preliminary stage of the training project, Public English Department of Foreign Languages has formulated feasible and practical training plan and Monash University has also designed training syllabus in accord with our needs. Most of the teachers participating in the training reflected that the training is of great pressure, workload and high efficiency. Under the humorous and rigorous training environment, teacher from our university played the role of students very well and accomplished the task assigned by teachers in Monash University with high quality, receiving acknowledgment and high praise from Monash University teachers. Teachers in our university all felt that they have not only clarified English language teaching theory but also achieved a profound understanding of how to apply theory flexibly, design teaching activities rationally in order to realize the goal of teaching.

Clearly, the overseas training are of great importance to further deepen non-English majors’ postgraduate English teaching and college English teaching reform, as well as to improve teaching quality.
