On the afternoon of September 18th, the four-week training program of English Department fruitfully ended with the sophomores presenting their training results to all the teachers and students of the Department. Zhu Hongqing, Vice Dean of School of Foreign Languages, delivered an ebullience opening speech at the annual performance of Short-term Training Program.
The performance consisted of 4 modules, namely, dubbing, drama show, public speech and interpretation. Altogether 11 programs were staged and enjoyed.
Short-term Training Program, an epitome of the teaching paradigm of English Department, aims to provide what is lacking in the long-term courses. The students join an interest group according to their own will and demands while the teachers offer suggestions and materials to help them accomplish the learning tasks. To improve the students’ motivation, to enhance input and frequency, and to create the actual situation for output, these are supposed to do during the program so that the students can build up their communicative competence in a relaxed atmosphere.
Short-term Training Program and the performance have proved to be a good way for English Department to discover and foster elites. Therefore, Short-term Training Program is popular among students.
