Leaders of School of Foreign Languages Attended Opening Ceremony of MTI Program (Suzhou)

On September 5th, School of Foreign Languages hosted the opening ceremony of the MTI program at Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou). Leaders of School of Foreign Languages, including Chen Meihua (Dean), Ma Qiang (General Secretary of the Party Committee), Liu Siming (Executive Vice Dean), Zhu Hongqing (Vice Dean), Liu Kehua (Vice Dean), Zhu Litian (Director of English Department), Li Jing(Director of Administrative Office), Ge Peiling (Secretary of Graduate Programs), Guo Qing (Deputy Director of MTI Teaching Center), Shi Dairong (Secretary of the Party Committee) and so on, attended the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Tang Dinghua (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee). Dean Chen delivered a speech to congratulate the students passing the entrance exam and becoming the first batch of double Master degrees of MTI. She also hoped that the students could study harder and join in more extra-curriculum activities to achieve excellence.

Zhu Hongqing, Vice Dean, stressed that the students must cultivate their ability of research, critical thinking, creative thinking, humanistic sensibility, and internationalized vision. He also required the students to balance the internship, job seeking and thesis writing. Liu Kehua, Vice Dean, briefly introduced the international MTI cooperation program. And he encouraged the students to participate in international exchange programs of graduates which are operated by School of Foreign Languages, SEU, jointly with some universities in America and Australia. He hoped that the students would be excellent in cross-cultural and intercultural communication. Tang Dinghua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, briefly introduced the localized management mechanism of Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou), especially the information about the assessment and scholarship, the employment guidance, and mentor-student meetings. He said he was willing to help the students solve some practical problems. Ge Peiling, Secretary of Graduate Programs, explained the graduate training process to the students.

Ma Qiang, General Secretary of the Party Committee, delivered a concluding speech. He proposed his earnest wish to the students that they learn not only how to do research but also how to behave.
