Welcome, New Graduate Students of 2014

A welcoming ceremony for the new graduate students of 2014 was successfully held on September 4th. Chen Meihua, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Ma Qiang, General Secretary of the Party Committee, Liu Siming, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Vice Dean, Zhu Hongqing, Vice Dean, Tang Dinghua, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean, Liu Kehua, Vice Dean, and many teachers from English and Japanese Departments took part in this ceremony.

Dean Chen made a speech to welcome all the students to join the family of School of Foreign Languages. She introduced the basic situation of the School and put forward some expectations on the first year graduates. It was hoped that all the students should be modest and prudent, learn to communicate with others, and keep in mind the concept of “combining Chinese and Western learning, striving for perfection” in the future study.

Then, Vice Dean Zhu Hongqing proposed five requirements for the new graduates from Lin Yutang's famous words, Receiving two cultures, concentrating on the studies”. He hoped that they could master the basic skills of learning, have a strong ability in scientific research, cultivate noble humanistic feelings and develop their own intercultural vision in the following learning period of time.

Song Yuanyuan, Chairman of the Graduates’ Union, made a speech on behalf of all the seniors. She said: I hope all of you could keep three loves in mind, love for teachers, love for learning, and love for classmates. She also taught how to transfer from an undergraduate to a real graduate student. As the chairman, she recommended everyone to join this big family eagerly in order to make contributions to the development of the School and improve their own abilities.

Yin Liugang, representative of all the 2014 new graduates, also made a speech on stage. He said that he made an expectation to the following new life.

At the end of the ceremony, General Secretary Ma made a conclusion. In his speech, he made a simple discussion on the choice of being a graduate student. He also pointed out the advantage of studying at Southeast University, a key university in China. He asked the students to pay more attention to the interdisciplinary research in the future and making good use of this advantage to stand out from numerous talents.

The number of the 2014 academic graduates is 34, including 27 majors in English and 7 majors in Japanese. These new graduates will make further progress under the supervision of the excellent teaching team and move towards a more brilliant future!
