1.Brief Introduction of Discipline
Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School (Suzhou) is the first of its kind approved by the Ministry of Education. The translation program of Southeast University has a long tradition of cultivating students’abilities in translation and interpreting, and its graduates are employed by both domestic and international organizations. As the only member of CIUTI in Australia, Monash University is prominent in the education of translation. Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI, aka MIT in Australia) aims at training top-notch professionals of translation and interpreting. The discipline prioritizes students’abilities in translation and interpreting, focusing on the practice based on translation and interpreting theory, to produce qualified professionals meeting the demand of the job market. The MTI training program is written based on both the MTI training program guide of the Education Ministry of China and the course information and synopsis of MIT offered by Monash University.
2.Training Objectives
Pooling the advantages of both universities in translation and interpreting education, the dual master training program aims at training top-notch professionals of translation and interpreting with global vision, proficient in the code-switch between the two languages, skilled at using translation tools, experienced in inter-personal and cross cultural communication, showing high standards of professional ethics, knowing sufficient translation and interpreting theory, offering high quality of language services, capable of working as translators and interpreters and/or managers of translation projects at both public and private sectors.

5. Thesis
Dissertation descriptions: (Choose one of the following three types, meeting the requirements for practice and proof.)
1.Project. Students are required to translate between the two languages, with word limit no less than 10,000 Chinese characters, under the guidance of their tutors. Meanwhile students need to submit manuscripts of translation with word limit no less than 150,000 words, including bi-directional translation, and based on the translation text, they write a research report with word limit no less than 5,000 words on a particular translation topic.
2.Experiment Report. Students are required to conduct translation experiments on a particular translation topic, under the guidance of their tutors, and write an experiment report with word limit no less than 10,000 words, based on the analysis of the experiment results.
3.Research Essay. Students are required to write a research essay on translation with word limit no less than 15,000 words, under the guidance of their tutors.
Dissertations must be written in English with the combination of translation theory and practice, meeting the requirements for academic writing.

Note:
(1) The minimum total-credit requirements of Master's curricula: 38 credits for students of arts. The minimum credit requirements of degree courses: 20 credits for students of arts. In addition, students should have 3 credits from compulsory courses.
(2) All courses are normally required to complete within one and half year after registration. Degree courses are normally required to complete within one year after registration.
(3) Degree courses are subject to this course plan, non-degree courses can be chosen from “Graduate Courses Catalog”.
