Sponsored by the editorial board of Foreign Language Teaching and Research and the National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education, both from Beijing Foreign Studies University, the 6th National Foreign Language Teaching and Research Forum for Young Scholars was successfully held at the School of Foreign Languages of Southeast University on Jiulonghu campus from 14th to 15th of April.
Dr. Chen Meihua, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, hosted the opening ceremony. Zheng Jiamao, Deputy Party Secretary of Southeast University, Senior Professor Xu Jun from Zhejiang University and Wang Kefei, Chief Editor of Foreign Language Teaching and Research of Beijing Foreign Studies University addressed the conference.
With the theme of “comparison and exchanges between languages and cultures in the new era”, the forum intends to build up a platform for the exchanges between academic journals and researchers and to motivate young scholars in their exploration and innovation in foreign language teaching and research. About 40 chief editors of core journals in foreign language studies and experts in the field of foreign language research have been invited and over 100 scholars attended the forum.
There were six plenary speeches and over ninety talks in panel discussions on four topics: comparison between languages and cultures, exchanges between languages and cultures, language and culture in translation, language and culture in foreign language education. Experts and chief journal editors participated in the discussions and made insightful comments.

Against the backdrop of educational development in the new era, this forum is of high academic value and practical significance with its focus on the academic research forefronts and teaching practice. It has provided young scholars with a platform of career development, enhanced the exchanges and cooperation between academic journals and researchers, and contributed to the prosperity and further development of foreign language teaching and research.
